Strange
and Terrible
MONSTERS!
I could have filled an entire
book with detailed monsters, like RPGs have historically done. But I decided
instead to take a play from the core rules, with its weapon- and armor-design
system. Instead of filling endless pages with stats on every weapon and armor
type I could think of, I added a design system that enables you to quickly and
easily construct any weapon or armor you want. That gives you broad creative
leeway, with no disappointment when the cool weapon you want isn't there.
The same thing works with
monsters. Sure, there are lions and tigers and bears (oh my), but what about the
other things you can find? After all, the worlds of the astroscape are often hit
with irradiated comet fragments that cause terrible
mutations. Sometimes the radiation kills;
other times it transforms animals into terrible monsters.
Enter the Mutant Monster
Machine, which lets you quickly and easily design all creatures great and small.
It's called the "Mutant" Monster Machine because its primary purpose was to
design critters changed by these bizarre radiations, but they don't have to be
irradiated; you can make anything you like. You can choose to use die rolls to
randomly generate monsters, and quickly adjust their size and power to suit your
party of adventurers, or you can use it without dice to easily construct the
monster of your dreams.
