Powerful and Godlike
IMMORTALS!
Those who master magic to an incredible
degree might be on their ways to becoming virtual gods. Or maybe you don't
have to master magic at all; perhaps all you need to do is catch the eye of
someone who is already a virtual god, one who will be so impressed that he
will elevate you to a lesser-god status. However you get there, you'll have
everlasting life (sort of), the chance to advance in power and become an
even greater virtual god (maybe), and letting you have a lot of fun with
those mere mortals (definitely).
Called Immortals, these powerful beings
are worshipped by the many races of the astroscape. Sometimes they're
worshipped because they're admired; other times they're worshiped because
they're feared. And the Immortals often quarrel, with members of various
pantheons (or those who are singular Immortals for their races) often
fighting each other. Being an Immortal is quite a day job. And these
Immortals are omniscient, omnipresent, or omnipotent; rather, they're
extremely powerful individuals who know that, at any time, someone else
might ascend to their level and challenge them. As such, they have a tenuous
and always-involved relationship with the mortals on the various worlds.
So how many Immortals are there? Probably
more than I've described, but I've described a few.
71 MAJOR IMMORTALS
These are the big guys. They include the First Immortals of the humans,
alfar, berg, deor, froyur, goblinoids, and taurians, and many other powerful
Immortals of many of those race groups. These 71 Immortals are fully
detailed and fleshed out for great role-playing.
128 MINOR IMMORTALS
Don't let "Minor" fool you. While they're secondary to the Major Immortals,
the Minor Immortals are extremely powerful and very important. All the major
race groups have them. The minor races tend to have only one Immortal at
all, generally a Minor Immortal, as they aren't powerful enough to warrant a
pantheon (yet). These 128 Minor Immortals are also detailed and ready for
gaming.
427 AVATARS
No, James Cameron didn't invent that word. We've been using it for 12 years,
and it isn't new to RPGs. But it's new the way we're doing it. Avatars are
junior gods, those who do the bidding of the Major and Minor Immortals, the
ones you're likely to interact with if there's any need for Immortal
interaction. They're the ones who generally decide whether miracles are
granted, or whether mortals deserve assistance. Some avatars even serve as
the only Immortals for minor races. Of these 427 avatars, 367 of them are
named and described, although in less detail than the other Immortals.
Another 60 avatars serve in groups which are described.
If you're keeping count, that's
626 Immortals.
Seriously. I wouldn't make this up. Trust, it's been a lot of work detailing
those guys!
