Feedback: The Astroscape Zero Campaign
Setting

Read feedback for the Amazing Quests! Core Rules
First, note that these comments refer to The Spyran
System, which was what Astroscape Zero was originally called
(I've replaced The Spyran System with Astroscape Zero for
clarity's sake). The comments were far fewer, as there weren't many rules;
this was all source material. That meant no confusion about contradictory
rules or whatnot. Also, at the time, this supplement was REALLY beta-test
material; only the major races and major worlds were even detailed, and
then in skeletal fashion. There are three times the worlds and five times
the races now as when we first released it for playtest!
"We've been playing the AQ!
core rules since last summer ... we'd been converting our Forgotten
Realms game over to it and loved how magic worked in particular ... the
release of [Astroscape Zero] was most welcome and we have thoroughly
enjoyed adventuring in it! We can't wait until the entire thing is
available ... keep up the good work!"
"There are so many worlds and
races to choose from! By the looks of things, there are a
lot more races to come ... we like how you've left it open to add other
races."
"The thing that stands out
the most is the huge number of races, and you can play any of
them as characters. And the worlds rock, too."
"I don't know what to play
first!"
"I am in love with [Astroscape Zero]."
"If I don't get the whole [AZ]
in a hurry, I might act like a little kid and start screaming for it. You guys have done an awesome job so far ... I downloaded the 'F' Revision
[of the core rules] when it first came out and was WAY skeptical, but after playing found it to
be fantastic. The 'G' Revision was surprising because I already thought it
was as good as it was gonna get and you made it better. But my gaming
group all agreed, before [AZ] was out, that while the Prolepsis Games
people knew how to make a set of rules, we figured you weren't gonna do too
well with source, since it was forever and a day before we saw any. We
were gonna play AQ! anyway, since we liked the rules... When the
first part of [AZ] was released, we were VERY impressed!! With
each piece being released, we have downloaded and printed and done
everything but roll around in it. Keep up the excellent work!"
Some Questions
Following are some curiosities that have been popular in question.
"The worlds are great, but
there are no maps, no detailed nations, no political structure, climate and
terrain differences, and all of that. Any chance of getting
that added in to the final release?"
No, that isn't planned,
but with good reason. I don't want to overload you with fine details—for that many worlds and races, we'd be filling up a thousand
pages! I want to give you the basic tools with which to begin your AZ
campaign, but to ensure that everyone is adventuring on uneven ground—that no two
AZ games are in any major way alike beyond what is
detailed there. I will consider releasing detailed world books in the
future, which will include such information, as well as in-depth race books.
"We love everything about [AZ], but were a little disappointed in the lack of technology.
If this is supposed to be an all-encompassing setting, why so little of
it?"
I wanted to balance things out. If everyone has
blasters, we feel the non-techno aspects might get overrun, and we did want
to make a strong magical basis in this. However, this doesn't mean
every TSS campaign needs to be this tech-limited! Plus, since this
email first came in, there have been MANY changes to AZ, including
DRAMATIC increases in techstuff in the astroscape.
