Special Sections Writer (March 2005-April 2014)
I began as a freelancer but was hired full-time in November 2005. I
was the section editor for over 130 publications, contributed to dozens of
others, wrote for the BDN's magazines, and since 2011 wrote for The
Weekly. Duties include interviewing and photography; writing news,
features, and advertorial; copy editing; paginating; and more. Supervisor:
Brian Swartz, editor.

I write a monthly short-fiction column at www.TheCud.com. Publisher:

Bangor Adult Education, Bangor, Maine
Creative Writing instructor (2007-2014)
My first semester was at United Technologies Center before moving to
Bangor Adult Education. Until this year, I taught two creative-writing
courses about short fiction: one for beginners and casual writers, another
for experienced and serious writers. I resigned this position in early
2014. Supervisor: Greg Leavitt, program director.
Computer Consultant, Bangor area, Maine
Self-employed (1990-present)
I did all types of computer work: hardware, software, consulting,
networking, Web design, page layouts, and more. I opened a shop in 1996
and did this full time until 2001, working with local and national
clients. I mostly left this line of work when I went to the Bangor Daily
News.
Staples in Bangor, Maine
Computer Sales/Technical Support (1995-1998)
While building my business, I worked in both Bangor retail stores. I
assumed the role of expert technical person for both stores. I left to
pursue my business full time. None of the supervisors from my tenure
remain there today.
Electra Byte, Bangor
Computer Sales/Assembly/Maintenance (1990-1991)
I sold and assembled personal computers, mostly for corporate
accounts. I left when this business closed. Supervisor: Dale Carlow,
owner.
Various retail positions (1988-1995)
1993-1995: Home Quarters, picking, coordinating, and driving
deliveries.
1992: Waterrest Waterbeds in Bangor as showroom salesman and then acting
store manager before going to Electra Byte.
1988: Zayre in Bangor as cashier, clerk, and management trainee.

Hampden Academy - Hampden, Maine (graduated 1987)
College preparatory courses with a focus on English, writing, and
computer science.
United Technologies Center - Bangor, Maine (1985-1987)
Completed 900-hour course in Computer Information Services.

United States Air Force 3519th Recruiting Squadron: Bangor,
Maine, 1990-1991. Volunteered at recruiting office 8-30 hours per week.
Performed all office functions, aided in the recruitment process, and was
entrusted with keys to this government office.
PERSONAL INTERESTS
Creative writing: I am fiction writer with 50+ short
stories that have appeared in print magazines and anthologies in the U.S.,
UK, and Canada. I also write a monthly short-fiction column on the Web
site The Cud, and I’m an independent publisher of short-fiction
anthologies and other books.
Role-playing games: An interest in role-playing games since
1983 has led to my design of a universal system that will soon publish.
Game Design: I design card games, dice games, board games,
and chess variants.
